Ben Capps is a renowned cellist and classical music artist who has made a name for himself in the world of music. Born in 1988 in New York City, Capps grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music from a very young age. His father, John Capps, was a professional cellist and his mother, Karen, was a pianist. His older brother, Carter, is also a cellist. Capps began playing the cello at the age of four and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He studied with his father and later with renowned cellist David Soyer at the Manhattan School of Music. He also studied with Timothy Eddy at the Juilliard School, where he received his Bachelor of Music degree. Capps has performed as a soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed in major concert halls around the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, and the Berlin Philharmonic. One of Capps' most notable performances was his debut with the New York Philharmonic in 2006, where he performed the Dvorak Cello Concerto under the baton of Lorin Maazel. The performance was widely praised by critics, who noted Capps' technical skill and emotional depth. Capps has also won numerous awards and competitions throughout his career. In 2006, he won the Juilliard School's Concerto Competition, which led to his performance with the New York Philharmonic. He also won the 2009 Irving M. Klein International String Competition and the 2011 Astral Artists National Auditions. In addition to his solo career, Capps is also a dedicated chamber musician. He has performed with many of the world's leading chamber ensembles, including the Emerson String Quartet, the Guarneri Quartet, and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. He is a founding member of the Horszowski Trio, which has been praised for its "passionate and insightful" performances. Capps is also a committed educator and has taught at the Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music, and the Bowdoin International Music Festival.
