The duo has gained recognition for their unique blend of classical and contemporary music, as well as their innovative approach to performance. Dr. Kristin Murray is a highly accomplished pianist who has performed extensively throughout the United States and Europe. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of North Texas, where she studied with renowned pianist, Joseph Banowetz. Dr. Murray has also studied with other notable pianists, including John Perry and Nelita True. In addition to her work with the Murray-Lohuis Duo, she is also a member of the faculty at the University of North Texas. Dr. Michael Lohuis is an accomplished percussionist who has performed with a variety of ensembles, including the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of North Texas, where he studied with renowned percussionist, Christopher Deane. Dr. Lohuis has also studied with other notable percussionists, including Leigh Howard Stevens and Robert van Sice. In addition to his work with the Murray-Lohuis Duo, he is also a member of the faculty at the University of North Texas. The Murray-Lohuis Duo has performed extensively throughout the United States and Europe, including performances at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, the Texas Music Educators Association Convention, and the International Festival of Percussion Ensembles. The duo has also been featured on several radio and television programs, including NPR's "Performance Today" and WRR Classical 101.1 FM. One of the highlights of the Murray-Lohuis Duo's career was their performance at the 2012 Percussive Arts Society International Convention. The duo performed a program of contemporary works for piano and percussion, including pieces by John Psathas, Alejandro Viñao, and David Gillingham.
