Wei Tsun Chang is a Taiwanese-American classical pianist who has gained international recognition for his virtuosic performances and musical interpretations. Born on August 22, 1987, in Taipei, Taiwan, Chang showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. His parents, both amateur musicians, recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Chang's musical education began at the age of six when he enrolled in the Yamaha Music School in Taipei. He quickly progressed through the program and began studying with renowned piano teacher, Professor Ching-Yun Hu, at the age of ten. Under Hu's guidance, Chang developed a deep understanding of the piano and its repertoire, and began to perform in public concerts and competitions. In 2002, Chang moved to the United States to attend the Walnut Hill School for the Arts in Natick, Massachusetts. Chang's talent and hard work paid off in 2008 when he won first prize in the New England Conservatory Concerto Competition, performing Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the NEC Symphony Orchestra. This performance was widely praised for its technical brilliance and emotional intensity, and marked the beginning of Chang's career as a professional pianist. Since then, Chang has performed extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia, appearing as a soloist with major orchestras and in recital at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He has also won numerous awards and competitions, including the 2010 Hilton Head International Piano Competition, the 2011 Vendome Prize at the Verbier Festival Academy, and the 2012 Young Concert Artists International Auditions. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the music of Chopin, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff, and has been praised for his ability to bring out the emotional depth and complexity of these composers' works.
