Role:EnsembleThe American String Project is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2000 by David Harding, a violist and professor at the University of Washington School of Music. The ensemble is made up of some of the most talented string players in the United States, including members of major symphony orchestras and renowned chamber groups. The idea for the American String Project came about when Harding was teaching a chamber music class at the University of Washington. He noticed that many of his students were struggling to find opportunities to play in high-level ensembles after they graduated. At the same time, he saw that there was a lack of professional-level string ensembles in the Pacific Northwest. Harding decided to create a new ensemble that would provide opportunities for talented string players to perform together and showcase their skills. He recruited some of his former students and colleagues, as well as other top musicians from around the country, to form the American String Project. The ensemble's first performance was in 2000 at the University of Washington's Meany Hall. The concert was a success, and the American String Project quickly gained a reputation for its high level of musicianship and innovative programming. Over the years, the American String Project has performed at some of the most prestigious concert halls in the United States, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Ravinia Festival. The ensemble has also collaborated with some of the world's leading musicians, including violinist Joshua Bell and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. One of the highlights of the American String Project's career was its performance at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City. The ensemble was invited to perform at the opening ceremony, where they played a piece by composer John Williams. The performance was broadcast to millions of viewers around the world, and it helped to raise the profile of the American String Project. In addition to its performances, the American String Project has also received numerous awards and accolades. The ensemble has been praised for its innovative programming, which often features new works by contemporary composers alongside classic pieces from the classical repertoire. The American String Project has also been recognized for its commitment to education and outreach. The ensemble regularly performs in schools and community centers, and it has developed a number of educational programs that aim to inspire young musicians and promote the value of classical music. Today, the American String Project continues to be one of the most respected and innovative classical music ensembles in the United States. The ensemble's members are all highly accomplished musicians who are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of classical music and inspiring audiences around the world.More....
