The choir was founded in 1934 by Carlos Chávez, a prominent Mexican composer and conductor, with the aim of promoting and preserving the rich musical heritage of Mexico. The choir comprises of around 120 members, including sopranos, altos, tenors, and basses, who are selected through a rigorous audition process. The choir's repertoire includes a wide range of classical music, from Renaissance and Baroque to contemporary works, with a particular emphasis on Mexican and Latin American composers. Over the years, Coro del Palacio de las Bellas Artes has performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls and festivals around the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Salzburg Festival in Austria. The choir has also collaborated with many renowned conductors and orchestras, such as Zubin Mehta, Plácido Domingo, and the Berlin Philharmonic. One of the highlights of the choir's history was its performance at the opening ceremony of the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City.
