The North Texas A Cappella Choir is a classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their stunning vocal performances for over 40 years. Founded in 1972 by Dr. Jerry McCoy, the choir has become one of the most respected and renowned a cappella groups in the United States. Dr. McCoy, who served as the choir's director for over 30 years, was a visionary musician who believed in the power of a cappella music to move and inspire audiences. He assembled a group of talented singers from the University of North Texas, where he was a professor of music, and began rehearsing and performing a wide range of classical and contemporary music. Over the years, the North Texas A Cappella Choir has had many talented members, but some of the most notable include sopranos Cynthia Nott and Jennifer Lane, tenors David Guzman and David Grogan, and basses David Vanderwal and David Grogan. These singers, along with many others, have helped to create the rich and vibrant sound that the choir is known for. One of the highlights of the North Texas A Cappella Choir's career was their performance at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. The choir was selected to represent the United States in the cultural exchange program, and they performed a variety of American and international music to audiences from around the world. This performance helped to establish the choir's reputation as one of the premier a cappella groups in the country. Another major performance for the choir was their appearance at the 1996 American Choral Directors Association National Convention in San Antonio, Texas. The choir performed a program of music that included works by Bach, Brahms, and Barber, and they received a standing ovation from the audience. This performance helped to solidify the choir's reputation as one of the top choral ensembles in the country. In addition to their major performances, the North Texas A Cappella Choir has also won numerous awards and accolades over the years. They have been named the Grand Champion of the National A Cappella Choir Competition three times, and they have won the prestigious Ward Swingle Award for Best A Cappella Group twice.
