Poema Harmónico is a classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their unique blend of Baroque and Renaissance music since their inception in 2005. The group was founded by Spanish musician and conductor, Juan Carlos Rivera, who sought to create a musical experience that would transport listeners back in time to the golden age of classical music. Born in Madrid in 1969, Rivera began his musical career at a young age, studying piano and composition at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid. He later went on to study conducting at the Hochschule für Musik in Vienna, Austria, where he honed his skills under the tutelage of some of the world's most renowned conductors. After completing his studies, Rivera returned to Spain and began working as a conductor and music director for various orchestras and ensembles. It was during this time that he began to develop his vision for Poema Harmónico, a group that would specialize in performing the music of the Baroque and Renaissance periods with a focus on historical accuracy and authenticity. Rivera assembled a group of talented musicians who shared his passion for early music, and together they began rehearsing and performing throughout Spain. Their unique sound and attention to detail quickly caught the attention of audiences and critics alike, and they soon began to receive invitations to perform at major festivals and concert halls throughout Europe. One of the highlights of Poema Harmónico's early career was their performance at the Festival Internacional de Música y Danza de Granada in 2007. The group's performance of Handel's "Messiah" was hailed as a triumph, with critics praising their "impeccable technique" and "sensitive interpretation" of the music. Over the years, Poema Harmónico has continued to build a reputation as one of the world's premier early music ensembles. They have performed at some of the most prestigious concert halls and festivals in Europe, including the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and the Salzburg Festival in Austria. In addition to their live performances, Poema Harmónico has also released several critically acclaimed recordings. Their debut album, "Music from the Spanish Golden Age," was released in 2006 and featured music by Spanish composers such as Tomás Luis de Victoria and Francisco Guerrero. The album was praised for its "exquisite performances" and "impeccable attention to detail." In 2010, Poema Harmónico released their second album, "Music from the Court of Louis XIV," which featured music by French composers such as Jean-Baptiste Lully and Marin Marais. The album was a commercial and critical success, earning the group a nomination for the prestigious Gramophone Award. In addition to their success as a group, several members of Poema Harmónico have also achieved individual acclaim. Violinist Pablo Suárez, for example, has been praised for his "virtuosic playing" and "sensitive interpretation" of Baroque music. He has performed as a soloist with orchestras throughout Europe and has released several solo recordings. Another standout member of the group is soprano María Espada, who has been hailed as one of the most exciting young voices in the world of early music. She has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras and conductors and has released several solo recordings, including a critically acclaimed album of music by Spanish composer Antonio de Literes.
