Artist Info
Prague Modern is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2005 in Prague, Czech Republic. The ensemble is known for its innovative approach to classical music, combining traditional repertoire with contemporary works and multimedia elements. The founding members of Prague Modern were conductor and artistic director Jiří Rožeň, violinist and concertmaster Pavel Šporcl, and cellist Tomáš Jamník. The ensemble quickly gained recognition for its unique programming and high-quality performances, and has since expanded to include a core group of around 20 musicians. One of the highlights of Prague Modern's early years was its collaboration with the Czech composer and conductor Petr Kotík. In 2007, the ensemble performed Kotík's "Many Many Women" at the Prague Spring Festival, a piece that features a large ensemble of musicians and vocalists. The performance was widely praised for its energy and precision, and helped establish Prague Modern as a leading ensemble in the Czech Republic. In the years that followed, Prague Modern continued to push the boundaries of classical music, incorporating multimedia elements such as video projections and electronic music into its performances. The ensemble also collaborated with a wide range of composers and performers, including the American composer John Adams and the Czech pianist Lukáš Vondráček. One of Prague Modern's most notable performances came in 2011, when the ensemble performed at the BBC Proms in London. The program featured works by Czech composers such as Leoš Janáček and Bohuslav Martinů, as well as contemporary pieces by the British composer Mark-Anthony Turnage. The performance was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and received widespread critical acclaim. In addition to its performances, Prague Modern has also been recognized for its recordings. The ensemble's 2010 album "Bohuslav Martinů: Chamber Music" was awarded the prestigious Diapason d'Or by the French music magazine Diapason, and its 2014 album "John Adams: Chamber Symphony" was nominated for a Grammy Award. Today, Prague Modern continues to be a leading ensemble in the Czech Republic and beyond, performing a wide range of repertoire and collaborating with some of the world's most innovative composers and performers. The ensemble's commitment to pushing the boundaries of classical music has earned it a reputation as one of the most exciting and dynamic ensembles in the world today.More....
