He was born on December 22, 1967, in Stuttgart, Germany, and grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a conductor, and his mother was a pianist, so music was always a part of his life. Rieger began playing the piano at the age of four and showed exceptional talent from an early age. He studied at the Stuttgart Conservatory and later at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hanover, where he received his diploma with distinction. He continued his studies with renowned pianists such as Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, András Schiff, and Alfred Brendel. In 1991, Rieger won the first prize at the International Piano Competition in Senigallia, Italy, which launched his career as a soloist. He has since performed in major concert halls around the world, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Carnegie Hall in New York, and the Royal Festival Hall in London. Rieger is known for his interpretations of the works of Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann, and Johannes Brahms. He has recorded several albums, including a complete recording of Schubert's piano sonatas, which received critical acclaim. He has also collaborated with renowned musicians such as cellist Heinrich Schiff and violinist Christian Tetzlaff. In addition to his career as a performer, Rieger is also a respected teacher.
