He was the son of the famous Hungarian composer Sandor Veress and the Swiss pianist Edith Picht-Axenfeld. Claudio Veress grew up in a musical family and was exposed to classical music from a very young age. He started playing the piano at the age of four and later learned to play the violin and the viola. Veress studied music at the Zurich Conservatory and later at the Juilliard School in New York City. He also studied with renowned musicians such as Isaac Stern, Dorothy DeLay, and Pinchas Zukerman. Veress was a talented musician and quickly gained recognition for his exceptional skills on the viola. Veress made his debut as a soloist with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra at the age of 18. He went on to perform with many other orchestras around the world, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. Veress was known for his passionate and expressive performances, and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music he played. One of Veress's most memorable performances was his rendition of Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante for Violin, Viola, and Orchestra, which he performed with his sister, the violinist Annette Veress. The performance was widely acclaimed and earned Veress and his sister a standing ovation from the audience. Veress was also a prolific chamber musician and performed with many renowned ensembles, including the Vermeer Quartet, the Guarneri Quartet, and the Emerson Quartet. He was a founding member of the Zurich String Trio and the Veress Quartet, both of which gained international recognition for their exceptional performances. In addition to his performances, Veress was also a respected teacher and mentor. He taught at the Zurich Conservatory and the Hochschule für Musik in Basel, Switzerland. Many of his students went on to have successful careers in music and credited Veress with inspiring and guiding them. Veress received many awards and honors throughout his career, including the Swiss Music Prize, the Prix de Lausanne, and the Prix de la Fondation Vaudoise pour la Culture. He was also a member of the prestigious International Viola Society and served as its president from 1998 to 2002. Tragically, Veress's career was cut short when he passed away at the age of 49 in 2001. He had been diagnosed with cancer and had been undergoing treatment for several months. Veress's death was a great loss to the classical music world, and he was mourned by his colleagues, students, and fans around the world. In conclusion, Claudio Veress was a talented and passionate classical music artist who made a significant contribution to the world of music. His exceptional performances, both as a soloist and as a chamber musician, earned him widespread acclaim and recognition. Veress's legacy lives on through his recordings, his students, and the many musicians he inspired and influenced throughout his career.More....
