Artist Info

The Piatti Quartet is a classical music ensemble that has gained international recognition for their exceptional performances and recordings. The quartet was founded in 1998 by four young musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The founding members were Nathaniel Anderson-Frank (violin), Michael Trainor (violin), David Wigram (viola), and Jessie Ann Richardson (cello). The quartet takes its name from the famous Italian cellist Alfredo Piatti, who was renowned for his virtuosity and contributions to the development of the cello as a solo instrument. The Piatti Quartet has been praised for their technical skill, musical sensitivity, and ability to communicate the emotional depth of the music they perform. The Piatti Quartet has performed extensively throughout the UK and internationally, including appearances at major music festivals such as the Edinburgh International Festival, the Cheltenham Music Festival, and the Bath International Music Festival. They have also performed at prestigious venues such as the Wigmore Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, and the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. One of the highlights of the Piatti Quartet's career was their performance at the 2015 BBC Proms, where they performed a program of works by Haydn, Bartok, and Beethoven. The performance was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and received critical acclaim for its energy, precision, and emotional depth. The Piatti Quartet has also been recognized for their recordings, which have received numerous awards and nominations. Their recording of the complete string quartets of Felix Mendelssohn was praised for its "impeccable ensemble playing, technical finesse, and interpretive insight" and was awarded the prestigious Gramophone Award for Chamber Music in 2016. In addition to their performances and recordings, the Piatti Quartet is committed to promoting the development of young musicians and audiences. They have worked with numerous educational institutions and community organizations to provide workshops, masterclasses, and performances for young musicians and music lovers. The Piatti Quartet has undergone some changes in its membership over the years. In 2014, Nathaniel Anderson-Frank left the quartet and was replaced by Charlotte Scott (violin). In 2018, Jessie Ann Richardson left the quartet and was replaced by cellist Jessie Ann Richardson. Despite these changes, the Piatti Quartet has continued to thrive and evolve, maintaining their commitment to excellence in performance and their dedication to promoting the development of classical music and its audiences. They remain one of the most respected and admired chamber music ensembles in the world today.
