Colin Mason was born on May 12, 1985, in London, England. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Colin showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Colin's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with his father and quickly progressed, showing a natural ability for the instrument. By the age of ten, Colin had already won several local piano competitions and was gaining recognition as a prodigious young talent. At the age of twelve, Colin was accepted into the prestigious Yehudi Menuhin School in Surrey, England. The school is renowned for its rigorous musical training and has produced many of the world's top classical musicians. Colin thrived in this environment, receiving expert instruction from some of the best teachers in the world. During his time at the Yehudi Menuhin School, Colin began to develop his own unique style of playing. He was particularly drawn to the works of Chopin, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff, and spent countless hours studying their compositions. Colin's playing was characterized by its technical precision, emotional depth, and expressive phrasing. After graduating from the Yehudi Menuhin School, Colin went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Here, he continued to refine his skills and broaden his musical horizons. He studied under some of the most respected pianists in the world, including Joanna MacGregor and Pascal Devoyon. In 2007, Colin won first prize in the prestigious Leeds International Piano Competition. This was a major milestone in his career and brought him international recognition as a rising star in the classical music world. The competition is known for its rigorous selection process and attracts some of the most talented young pianists from around the world. Following his success at the Leeds International Piano Competition, Colin began to receive invitations to perform at major concert halls around the world. He made his debut at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 2008, performing Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the London Symphony Orchestra. The performance was a resounding success, with Colin receiving a standing ovation from the audience. Over the years, Colin has performed with many of the world's top orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Vienna Philharmonic. He has also collaborated with some of the most respected conductors in the world, including Sir Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim, and Valery Gergiev. In addition to his performances as a soloist, Colin is also an accomplished chamber musician. He has collaborated with many of the world's top string quartets, including the Emerson Quartet and the Takács Quartet. He is known for his ability to blend seamlessly with other musicians and for his sensitive and nuanced approach to chamber music. Throughout his career, Colin has received numerous awards and accolades for his performances. In addition to his win at the Leeds International Piano Competition, he has also won the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. He has been praised for his technical virtuosity, his musical sensitivity, and his ability to connect with audiences on an emotional level.
