The SRSO was founded by the Swedish Radio Corporation, which sought to create a professional orchestra to perform on its radio broadcasts. Over the years, the SRSO has been led by a number of distinguished conductors, including Herbert Blomstedt, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and Daniel Harding. Each conductor has brought their own unique vision and style to the orchestra, helping to shape its sound and reputation. Today, the SRSO is led by Chief Conductor and Artistic Director Daniel Harding, who has been with the orchestra since 2007. Under Harding's leadership, the SRSO has continued to push the boundaries of classical music, performing a diverse range of repertoire and collaborating with artists from a variety of genres. The orchestra has also collaborated with some of the world's most celebrated soloists, including pianist Martha Argerich, violinist Joshua Bell, and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. One of the SRSO's most notable performances was its 2016 concert at the Nobel Prize ceremony in Stockholm.
