The Budapest Strauss Ensemble is a classical music ensemble that specializes in performing the works of the Strauss family, as well as other Viennese composers. The ensemble was founded in 1986 by conductor István Bogár, who remains its artistic director to this day. Bogár had previously been the conductor of the Hungarian State Opera, and he wanted to create an ensemble that would focus on the lighter, more popular side of classical music.
