Role:EnsembleThe Luthers Bach Ensemble is a classical music ensemble that specializes in the performance of the works of Johann Sebastian Bach. The ensemble was founded in 2003 by conductor Pieter Jan Leusink, and has since become one of the most renowned Bach ensembles in the world. Pieter Jan Leusink was born in the Netherlands in 1958, and began his musical career as a choirboy in the St. Bavo Cathedral in Haarlem. He went on to study music at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam, and later at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. In 1983, he founded the Holland Boys Choir, which quickly gained a reputation for excellence in the performance of Baroque music. In 2003, Leusink founded the Luthers Bach Ensemble with the goal of performing all of Bach's cantatas in chronological order. The ensemble is named after Martin Luther, who was a major influence on Bach's music. The ensemble's first performance was in the Grote Kerk in Naarden, the Netherlands, on September 6, 2003. The Luthers Bach Ensemble is made up of a core group of musicians, including soloists, choir members, and instrumentalists. The ensemble's soloists are renowned for their interpretations of Bach's music, and include sopranos Ruth Holton and Olga Zinovieva, altos Sytse Buwalda and Annette Markert, tenors Knut Schoch and Nico van der Meel, and basses Bas Ramselaar and Klaus Mertens. The ensemble's choir is made up of professional singers from the Netherlands and Germany, and is known for its precision and clarity of sound. The instrumentalists in the ensemble are also highly skilled, and include members of the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century. Since its founding, the Luthers Bach Ensemble has performed all of Bach's cantatas in chronological order, a feat that took over ten years to complete. The ensemble has also performed many of Bach's other works, including his Passions, Masses, and Oratorios. One of the highlights of the Luthers Bach Ensemble's career was their performance of Bach's St. Matthew Passion in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam in 2006. The performance was highly acclaimed by critics and audiences alike, and was later released on CD and DVD. The ensemble has also received numerous awards and accolades for their performances. In 2007, they were awarded the Edison Classical Music Award for their recording of Bach's Christmas Oratorio. They have also been nominated for several other Edison awards, as well as for the International Classical Music Awards. In addition to their performances and recordings, the Luthers Bach Ensemble is also committed to music education. They regularly hold workshops and masterclasses for young musicians, and have established a scholarship program to support talented young musicians. Overall, the Luthers Bach Ensemble is a world-renowned classical music ensemble that has made a significant contribution to the performance and interpretation of Bach's music. Their commitment to excellence and their dedication to music education have made them a beloved and respected institution in the world of classical music.More....
