From a young age, Passin showed a keen interest in music, and his parents encouraged him to pursue his passion. Passin's parents recognized his potential and enrolled him in the Berlin Conservatory of Music when he was just eight years old. There, he received formal training in piano and music theory. He continued his studies at the conservatory for the next ten years, honing his skills and developing his unique style. In 1966, Passin moved to Vienna, Austria, to attend the Vienna Academy of Music. He studied under some of the most renowned piano teachers of the time, including Friedrich Gulda and Paul Badura-Skoda. During his time in Vienna, Passin also had the opportunity to perform in several concerts and recitals, which helped him gain valuable experience and exposure. After completing his studies in Vienna, Passin embarked on a successful career as a concert pianist. He performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls around the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Berlin Philharmonic. His performances were always well-received, and he quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented pianists of his generation. Passin's repertoire was vast and varied, encompassing works from some of the greatest composers in history, including Beethoven, Mozart, and Chopin. He was particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Franz Liszt, which he performed with great passion and intensity. Throughout his career, Passin received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to the world of music. In 1972, he won the prestigious International Piano Competition in Leeds, England, which helped to launch his career on the international stage. He also received the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art in 1998, in recognition of his outstanding achievements in the field of music. He also remained committed to teaching, passing on his knowledge and expertise to the next generation of musicians. Sadly, Passin passed away on June 12, 2015, at the age of 67.
