Mona Asuka Ott is a classical pianist who has captivated audiences around the world with her virtuosic performances and deep musicality. Born in Tokyo, Japan, in 1993, Ott began playing the piano at the age of three and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. Her parents, both amateur musicians, recognized her potential and encouraged her to pursue her passion for music. Ott's early musical education was shaped by her exposure to a wide range of musical styles and traditions. She studied classical piano with renowned teachers in Japan, including Hiroko Nakamura and Akiko Ebi, and also explored jazz and improvisation. Her eclectic musical background gave her a unique perspective on the piano and helped her develop a distinctive voice as a performer. In 2011, Ott moved to Germany to study at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich. There, she studied with the acclaimed pianist and pedagogue Elisabeth Leonskaja, who became a mentor and inspiration to her. Under Leonskaja's guidance, Ott honed her technical skills and deepened her understanding of the music she played. Ott's talent and hard work soon began to pay off. In 2013, she won first prize at the International Piano Competition in San Marino, Italy, and in 2014, she was a finalist at the prestigious International German Piano Award. These early successes helped establish her as a rising star in the classical music world. Since then, Ott has gone on to perform at some of the world's most renowned concert halls and festivals. She has appeared as a soloist with orchestras such as the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, and the St. Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra, and has given recitals in cities including Berlin, Paris, London, and New York. One of Ott's most memorable performances was her debut at the Salzburg Festival in 2017. She was invited to perform as part of the festival's "Young Soloists" series, which showcases emerging talent in classical music. Ott's performance of works by Schumann, Liszt, and Ravel was met with critical acclaim, and she was praised for her "dazzling technique" and "sensitive musicality." Ott's repertoire is wide-ranging and includes works by composers from Bach to Ligeti. She is particularly drawn to the music of the Romantic era, and has a special affinity for the works of Schumann and Chopin. Her interpretations of these composers' music are marked by a deep emotional intensity and a keen sense of drama. In addition to her performing career, Ott is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. She has given masterclasses at institutions such as the Royal Academy of Music in London and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, and has worked with young musicians around the world. She is passionate about sharing her love of music with others and helping the next generation of musicians develop their own artistic voices. Ott's talent and dedication have earned her numerous accolades and awards. In addition to her early competition wins, she has been recognized with prizes such as the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe Scholarship and the Rotary Club Munich International Music Award. She was also a finalist in the 2019 International German Piano Award, cementing her status as one of the most promising young pianists of her generation. Looking to the future, Ott shows no signs of slowing down. She continues to perform and record, and is always seeking new challenges and opportunities to grow as a musician.
