Robin Hayward is a renowned classical music artist who has made significant contributions to the world of contemporary music. Born in Brighton, England in 1969, Hayward grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music from a young age. His father was a jazz pianist, and his mother was a classical pianist, which gave him a unique perspective on music. Hayward began his musical journey by learning the trombone at the age of 11. He quickly became proficient in the instrument and went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London. During his time at the academy, he discovered the tuba and became fascinated with its unique sound. He went on to study the instrument at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin, where he was mentored by the renowned tuba player, Klaus Stoll. After completing his studies, Hayward began his career as a professional musician. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented tuba player and was invited to perform with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic and the London Symphony Orchestra. He also began to explore contemporary music and became interested in experimental techniques and extended playing techniques. In 2000, Hayward joined the ensemble Zeitkratzer, a group of musicians who specialize in contemporary music. With Zeitkratzer, he has performed all over the world and has collaborated with some of the most innovative composers of our time, including John Cage, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and Lou Reed. Hayward's solo work is also highly regarded. He has released several albums, including "States of Rushing" and "Stop Time," which showcase his unique approach to the tuba. He is known for his use of microtonal scales and his ability to create complex, layered textures with the instrument. In addition to his work as a performer, Hayward is also a respected educator. He has taught at several institutions, including the University of the Arts in Berlin and the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. He is also the founder of the Tubax Collective, a group of tuba players who are dedicated to exploring the possibilities of the instrument. Hayward's contributions to the world of music have not gone unnoticed. He has received several awards and honors throughout his career, including the Kranichstein Music Prize and the Berlin Art Prize. He was also awarded a fellowship from the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart, Germany. Hayward's performances are always highly anticipated, and he continues to push the boundaries of what is possible with the tuba. His unique approach to the instrument has inspired a new generation of musicians and has helped to elevate the tuba to a new level of prominence in the world of classical music.
