The Silver Garburg Piano Duo is a classical music duo consisting of Israeli pianists Sivan Silver and Gil Garburg. The duo has gained international recognition for their unique and dynamic performances, which have been praised for their technical precision and emotional depth. Sivan Silver was born in Israel in 1973 and began playing the piano at the age of five. She studied at the Rubin Academy of Music in Tel Aviv and later at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover, Germany. Gil Garburg was born in Israel in 1979 and also began playing the piano at a young age. He studied at the Rubin Academy of Music in Tel Aviv and later at the Juilliard School in New York City. The duo first met in 1997 while studying at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover. They quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music and began performing together as the Silver Garburg Piano Duo. In 1998, they won first prize at the Murray Dranoff International Two Piano Competition in Miami, Florida, which launched their international career. Since then, the duo has performed at major concert halls and festivals around the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York City, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Salzburg Festival, and the Lucerne Festival. They have collaborated with many renowned conductors and orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Israel Philharmonic, and the London Philharmonic. One of the duo's most notable performances was their 2010 debut at Carnegie Hall, where they performed a program of works by Schubert, Brahms, and Ravel. The New York Times praised their "impressive technical control and musical sensitivity," and noted that "the duo's playing was marked by a sense of unity and a shared vision." The duo has also received numerous awards and accolades for their performances and recordings. In 2007, they won the Echo Klassik Award for their recording of Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Berlin Philharmonic. They have also been nominated for Grammy Awards for their recordings of works by Brahms and Schubert. In addition to their performances as a duo, Silver and Garburg are also accomplished soloists and chamber musicians. They have performed with many renowned musicians, including cellist Yo-Yo Ma and violinist Itzhak Perlman. The duo is known for their innovative programming, which often includes lesser-known works alongside more familiar repertoire. They are also committed to promoting contemporary music, and have premiered works by many living composers. In addition to their performing career, Silver and Garburg are also dedicated teachers.
