Role:EnsembleGenre:ConcertoGruppe Neue Musik Hanns Eisler is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1976 in East Berlin, Germany. The group was named after the famous composer Hanns Eisler, who was known for his contributions to the development of modern music. The founding members of the ensemble were all graduates of the Hanns Eisler Music Academy in Berlin, and they shared a passion for contemporary classical music. The group's original lineup consisted of six musicians: Rainer Böhm (piano), Wolfgang Hirschmann (clarinet), Wolfgang Lessing (violin), Jürgen Kurth (cello), Hans-Peter Schulz (percussion), and Hans-Joachim Scheitzbach (flute). From the beginning, Gruppe Neue Musik Hanns Eisler was committed to performing new and experimental works by contemporary composers. The group's repertoire included pieces by composers such as Karlheinz Stockhausen, György Ligeti, and Pierre Boulez, as well as works by lesser-known composers from East Germany and other parts of the world. One of the highlights of the ensemble's early years was their participation in the 1978 Warsaw Autumn Festival, one of the most prestigious contemporary music festivals in Europe. The group's performance of Stockhausen's "Kontakte" was well-received by audiences and critics alike, and helped to establish Gruppe Neue Musik Hanns Eisler as one of the leading ensembles in the field of contemporary classical music. Over the years, the ensemble's lineup has changed, with new members joining and others leaving. However, the group has remained committed to its original mission of promoting new and experimental music. Today, Gruppe Neue Musik Hanns Eisler is made up of six musicians: Ulrich Löffler (clarinet), Bettina Junge (violin), Andreas Seidel (cello), Matthias Bauer (double bass), Burkhard Friedrich (piano), and Matthias Kaul (percussion). In addition to their performances in Germany, the ensemble has toured extensively throughout Europe and Asia, performing at major festivals and concert halls. Some of their most notable performances include a 1990 concert at the Berlin Philharmonic, where they performed works by Boulez, Ligeti, and others, and a 2001 performance at the Salzburg Festival, where they premiered a new work by the German composer Helmut Lachenmann. Gruppe Neue Musik Hanns Eisler has also been the recipient of numerous awards and honors over the years. In 1982, the ensemble was awarded the National Prize of East Germany for their contributions to contemporary music. In 1996, they received the Berlin Art Prize, one of the most prestigious cultural awards in Germany. And in 2016, the ensemble was awarded the Echo Klassik Award for their recording of works by the German composer Hans Werner Henze. Despite the many changes that have taken place over the years, Gruppe Neue Musik Hanns Eisler remains one of the most important ensembles in the field of contemporary classical music. Their commitment to promoting new and experimental works has helped to shape the direction of modern music, and their performances continue to inspire audiences around the world.More....
