Born in New York City in 1975, Shapiro showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. Her parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue music as a career. Shapiro's musical education began at the Juilliard School, where she studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and teacher, Yoheved Kaplinsky. She later went on to study at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where she received her Bachelor of Music degree.
