Born on August 22, 1987, in Bogotá, Colombia, Angarita showed an early interest in music and began playing the guitar at the age of six. He was initially self-taught, but later received formal training from renowned guitarists such as Ricardo Cobo and Alvaro Pierri. Angarita's talent and dedication to the guitar quickly became apparent, and he began to win numerous awards and competitions. In 2005, he won first prize in the National Guitar Competition in Colombia, and in 2006, he won first prize in the International Guitar Competition in Costa Rica. These early successes paved the way for Angarita's career as a professional musician. There, he studied with Manuel Barrueco, one of the most renowned guitarists in the world. He has performed in major concert halls and festivals throughout the world, including the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, and the Festival Internacional de Guitarra de Morelia in Mexico. He has also collaborated with a wide range of musicians, including the Cuarteto Latinoamericano, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and the Colombian National Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his performances, Angarita has also gained recognition for his compositions. His works have been performed by numerous ensembles and orchestras, and he has received commissions from organizations such as the Baltimore Classical Guitar Society and the Colombian Ministry of Culture. His compositions often incorporate elements of Colombian folk music, as well as other Latin American and European musical traditions. Angarita's recordings have also received critical acclaim. His debut album, "Camillo Angarita: Guitar Recital," was released in 2012 and features works by Bach, Ponce, and Barrios, as well as several of his own compositions. His second album, "Colombian Guitar Music," was released in 2016 and features works by Colombian composers such as Gentil Montaña and Luis Zea, as well as several of Angarita's own compositions.
