His work has been performed by some of the world's leading orchestras and ensembles, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Ensemble Intercontemporain, and the Arditti Quartet. One of Maldonado's most significant works is his opera, "La Ciudad de las Mentiras" (The City of Lies), which premiered in 2014 at the Teatro Real in Madrid. The opera, which was based on a play by the Spanish writer Juan Carlos Rubio, tells the story of a group of people who are trapped in a city where lying is the norm. The opera was well-received by critics and audiences alike and was hailed as a major achievement in contemporary opera. Maldonado has also received numerous awards and honors for his work. In 2003, he was awarded the Prix de Rome, one of the most prestigious awards for young composers.
