He was the son of a music teacher and grew up in a family that was passionate about music. From a young age, Reinartz showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. Reinartz's early musical education was under the tutelage of his father, who was a respected music teacher in Cologne. He received his formal training at the Cologne Conservatory, where he studied piano, composition, and conducting. Reinartz was a diligent student and quickly established himself as one of the most promising young musicians of his generation. After completing his studies, Reinartz began his career as a concert pianist. He made his debut in 1946, performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 with the Cologne Philharmonic Orchestra.
