SOLI Chamber Ensemble is a classical music ensemble based in San Antonio, Texas. The ensemble was founded in 1994 by four musicians who shared a passion for contemporary classical music. The founding members were Ertan Torgul (violin), Stephanie Key (clarinet), Carolyn True (piano), and David Mollenauer (cello). The ensemble's name, SOLI, is derived from the Italian word "soli," which means "alone" or "solo." This name reflects the ensemble's commitment to performing works that showcase the individual talents of each member, as well as their ability to collaborate and create a cohesive sound. Since its founding, SOLI Chamber Ensemble has become one of the most respected and innovative chamber ensembles in the United States. The ensemble has commissioned and premiered over 100 new works by composers from around the world, and has performed in major concert halls and festivals throughout the United States and Europe. The current members of SOLI Chamber Ensemble are Ertan Torgul (violin), Stephanie Key (clarinet), Carolyn True (piano), and David Mollenauer (cello). Each member brings a unique perspective and skill set to the ensemble, and their individual talents combine to create a dynamic and engaging sound. One of the highlights of SOLI Chamber Ensemble's career was their performance at the 2002 World Music Days festival in Hong Kong. The ensemble was one of only two American ensembles invited to perform at the festival, which featured some of the most innovative and exciting contemporary classical music from around the world. Another notable performance by SOLI Chamber Ensemble was their collaboration with the San Antonio Symphony in 2010. The ensemble performed the world premiere of "Concerto for SOLI and Orchestra" by composer Robert X. Rodriguez, which was commissioned by the San Antonio Symphony specifically for SOLI Chamber Ensemble. SOLI Chamber Ensemble has also been recognized for their contributions to contemporary classical music with numerous awards and honors. In 2000, the ensemble was awarded the ASCAP/CMA Adventurous Programming Award for their commitment to performing new and innovative works. In 2006, the ensemble was awarded the Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming. In addition to their performances and awards, SOLI Chamber Ensemble is also committed to education and outreach. The ensemble regularly performs in schools and community centers, and has developed a number of educational programs designed to introduce young people to contemporary classical music.
