He was born into a family of musicians, and his father was a well-known conductor in Austria. From a young age, Josef showed a keen interest in music, and his parents encouraged him to pursue his passion. Josef began his musical training at the age of six, and he started with the piano. He showed remarkable talent and dedication, and his parents decided to enroll him in the Vienna Conservatory of Music. There, he studied under some of the most renowned piano teachers in Austria, including Paul Badura-Skoda and Jörg Demus. At the age of 16, Josef won his first major piano competition, the International Beethoven Piano Competition in Vienna. This was a significant achievement for the young musician, and it marked the beginning of his career as a professional pianist. He went on to win several other competitions, including the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw and the International Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in Moscow. Josef's talent and dedication to music earned him a scholarship to study at the Juilliard School in New York City. There, he studied under the tutelage of some of the most renowned piano teachers in the world, including Yoheved Kaplinsky and Jerome Lowenthal. He also had the opportunity to perform in some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. After completing his studies at Juilliard, Josef embarked on a successful career as a concert pianist. He performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Vienna State Opera. He also collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors and orchestras in the world, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. Josef's performances were always highly acclaimed, and he received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 2001, he was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given to outstanding young musicians who show exceptional talent and promise. He was also awarded the International Classical Music Award in 2005 for his recording of Beethoven's Piano Concertos. In addition to his career as a concert pianist, Josef was also a dedicated teacher. He taught at the Vienna Conservatory of Music and the Juilliard School, and he was known for his ability to inspire and motivate his students.
