Intermusica Ensemble is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1982 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is based in London, England, and has since become one of the most respected and sought-after chamber groups in the world. The founding members of Intermusica Ensemble were violinist Anthony Marwood, cellist Richard Lester, and pianist Susan Tomes. They were soon joined by violist Robin Ireland and clarinetist Michael Collins, and together they began performing concerts throughout the UK and Europe. Over the years, the ensemble has undergone some changes in its membership, but it has always maintained a high level of musical excellence. Some of the current members of Intermusica Ensemble include violinist Alina Ibragimova, cellist Natalie Clein, and pianist Cedric Tiberghien. Intermusica Ensemble has performed at some of the most prestigious concert halls and festivals in the world, including the Wigmore Hall in London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and the Salzburg Festival in Austria. They have also collaborated with some of the most renowned musicians of our time, such as pianist Mitsuko Uchida, violinist Joshua Bell, and cellist Steven Isserlis. One of the highlights of Intermusica Ensemble's career was their performance at the BBC Proms in 2005. They performed a program of works by Mozart, Brahms, and Schumann, which was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3. The performance was met with critical acclaim, and it helped to cement the ensemble's reputation as one of the leading chamber groups in the world. Intermusica Ensemble has also been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades throughout their career. In 1996, they won the Royal Philharmonic Society Award for Chamber Music, and in 2003 they were awarded the MIDEM Classical Award for their recording of Schubert's "Trout" Quintet. They have also been nominated for several Grammy Awards for their recordings. In addition to their performances and recordings, Intermusica Ensemble is also committed to music education and outreach. They regularly give masterclasses and workshops for young musicians, and they have also established a residency program at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Overall, Intermusica Ensemble is a world-class chamber group that has made a significant contribution to the world of classical music. Their commitment to musical excellence, their innovative programming, and their dedication to music education have made them one of the most respected and admired ensembles in the world.
