Following his studies at Michigan, Tardue began his career as a conductor, working with a number of orchestras and ensembles throughout the United States. He quickly gained a reputation for his skill and talent, and was soon invited to conduct some of the most prestigious orchestras in the world. One of Tardue's most notable performances came in 1992, when he conducted the New York Philharmonic in a performance of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9. The performance was widely praised by critics and audiences alike, and helped to establish Tardue as one of the leading conductors of his generation. Over the course of his career, Tardue has conducted a wide range of orchestras and ensembles, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra.
