Galatea Quartett is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2016. The quartet is composed of four talented musicians, namely, Anna Lee, Karen Kim, Abigail Rojansky, and Madeline Fayette. The ensemble has quickly gained recognition for their exceptional performances and unique interpretations of classical music. The quartet's founding members, Anna Lee and Karen Kim, met while studying at the Juilliard School in New York City. They quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music and decided to form a quartet. They were later joined by Abigail Rojansky and Madeline Fayette, both of whom were also studying at Juilliard. Galatea Quartett takes its name from the Greek myth of Pygmalion and Galatea. In the myth, Pygmalion, a sculptor, falls in love with a statue he has created named Galatea. The goddess Aphrodite brings the statue to life, and Pygmalion and Galatea live happily ever after. The quartet chose this name to represent their belief in the transformative power of music. Since its founding, Galatea Quartett has performed at numerous prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center. The quartet has also been featured on NPR's "Performance Today" and has collaborated with renowned musicians such as Itzhak Perlman and Yo-Yo Ma. One of the quartet's most notable performances was their debut at Carnegie Hall in 2018. The quartet performed works by Beethoven, Bartok, and Mendelssohn to critical acclaim. The New York Times praised the quartet's "impressive technical skill and emotional depth." Galatea Quartett has also received numerous awards and accolades for their performances. In 2017, the quartet won the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, one of the most prestigious chamber music competitions in the United States. The quartet was also awarded the Grand Prize at the Plowman Chamber Music Competition in 2018. In addition to their performances, Galatea Quartett is committed to music education and outreach. The quartet has worked with numerous schools and community organizations to bring classical music to underserved communities. They have also conducted masterclasses and workshops for young musicians. Galatea Quartett's repertoire includes works by classical composers such as Beethoven, Mozart, and Haydn, as well as contemporary composers such as Caroline Shaw and John Adams. The quartet is known for their innovative interpretations of classical works, often incorporating elements of jazz and folk music into their performances. In conclusion, Galatea Quartett is a classical music ensemble that has quickly gained recognition for their exceptional performances and unique interpretations of classical music. The quartet's founding members, Anna Lee and Karen Kim, met while studying at the Juilliard School in New York City and were later joined by Abigail Rojansky and Madeline Fayette.
