Role:EnsemblePeriod:ModernGenre:ChamberConcertoThe Amernet String Quartet is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences around the world for over 25 years. The quartet was founded in 1991 by four young musicians who shared a passion for chamber music and a desire to create a unique sound that would set them apart from other ensembles. The founding members of the Amernet String Quartet were violinists Marcia Littley and Misha Vitenson, violist Michael Klotz, and cellist Javier Arias-Felix. All four musicians had already established themselves as accomplished performers and had studied at some of the most prestigious music schools in the world, including the Juilliard School, the New England Conservatory, and the Moscow Conservatory. From the beginning, the Amernet String Quartet set out to explore a wide range of repertoire, from the classics of the string quartet canon to contemporary works by living composers. They quickly gained a reputation for their technical precision, expressive playing, and innovative programming, and were soon in demand for performances at major concert halls and festivals around the world. One of the highlights of the Amernet String Quartet's early career was their performance at the 1992 Banff International String Quartet Competition, where they won the Grand Prize and the Audience Prize. This prestigious competition is known for launching the careers of many successful string quartets, and the Amernet's victory helped to establish them as one of the most promising young ensembles of their generation. Over the years, the Amernet String Quartet has continued to build on their early success, performing at major venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Wigmore Hall in London. They have also collaborated with many of the world's leading musicians, including pianist Menahem Pressler, cellist Lynn Harrell, and clarinetist Richard Stoltzman. In addition to their busy concert schedule, the Amernet String Quartet has also recorded extensively, with over a dozen albums to their name. Their recordings have received critical acclaim and have been featured on radio stations around the world. One of the hallmarks of the Amernet String Quartet's playing is their commitment to exploring new and lesser-known works. They have premiered many new compositions by living composers, including works by John Harbison, Tania León, and Augusta Read Thomas. They have also championed the music of neglected composers from the past, such as the Czech composer Viktor Ullmann, who perished in the Holocaust. In recognition of their contributions to the world of chamber music, the Amernet String Quartet has received numerous awards and honors. In addition to their victory at the Banff International String Quartet Competition, they have been awarded the Cleveland Quartet Award, the Martin E. Segal Award from Lincoln Center, and the Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming. Today, the Amernet String Quartet continues to inspire audiences around the world with their passionate and innovative approach to chamber music. With their technical mastery, expressive playing, and commitment to exploring new repertoire, they have established themselves as one of the most exciting and dynamic string quartets of our time.More....
