Helen McQueen was born on May 12, 1985, in London, England. She grew up in a family of musicians, with her mother being a pianist and her father a cellist. From a young age, Helen showed a natural talent for music and began playing the violin at the age of four. Helen's parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. She began taking private lessons with renowned violinists and attended the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she studied under the guidance of Professor David Takeno. During her time at the Royal Academy of Music, Helen won several awards and competitions, including the prestigious Royal Academy of Music Bach Prize and the Royal Philharmonic Society's Julius Isserlis Scholarship. These awards helped to establish her as a rising star in the classical music world. After graduating from the Royal Academy of Music, Helen began performing with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. She quickly gained a reputation for her technical skill and emotional depth, and her performances were praised by critics and audiences alike. One of Helen's most memorable performances was at the 2008 Proms, where she performed the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Her performance was hailed as "spellbinding" and "mesmerizing," and it cemented her status as one of the most talented young violinists of her generation. In addition to her work as a soloist, Helen was also a passionate chamber musician. She frequently collaborated with other musicians, including pianist Martha Argerich and cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and was a member of the renowned Belcea Quartet. Throughout her career, Helen received numerous awards and accolades for her contributions to classical music. In 2010, she was awarded the prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship, which recognizes exceptional young musicians and provides them with financial support and career guidance. She was also named a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music in 2012, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the music world. Tragically, Helen's career was cut short when she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2014. Despite undergoing extensive treatment, she passed away on August 15, 2015, at the age of 30. Helen's legacy lives on through her recordings and performances, which continue to inspire and move audiences around the world. She will always be remembered as a gifted musician and a true artist, whose passion and dedication to her craft touched the hearts of all who heard her play.
