Bridge Ensemble is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2010 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is based in London, United Kingdom, and is known for its innovative programming and dynamic performances. The founding members of Bridge Ensemble were violinist Tamsin Waley-Cohen, violist Rosalind Ventris, cellist Nathaniel Boyd, and pianist Huw Watkins. All four musicians had established successful solo careers and had performed with some of the world's leading orchestras and ensembles. The ensemble's name, Bridge, was chosen to reflect the group's desire to bridge the gap between traditional and contemporary classical music. The ensemble's repertoire includes works by classical composers such as Beethoven and Brahms, as well as contemporary composers such as Thomas Adès and Kaija Saariaho. Since its founding, Bridge Ensemble has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and festivals, including the Wigmore Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, and the Edinburgh International Festival. The ensemble has also collaborated with some of the world's leading musicians, including pianist Stephen Hough and cellist Steven Isserlis. One of the highlights of Bridge Ensemble's career was their performance at the 2012 BBC Proms, where they performed a program of works by Brahms and Schumann. The performance was widely praised by critics, with The Guardian describing it as "a performance of great depth and sensitivity." In addition to their performances, Bridge Ensemble has also received numerous awards and accolades. In 2012, the ensemble was awarded the Royal Philharmonic Society's Young Artists Award, which recognizes outstanding young musicians and ensembles. The ensemble was also selected as a BBC New Generation Artist in 2013, which provided them with opportunities to perform and record for the BBC. Bridge Ensemble's current members include violinist Tamsin Waley-Cohen, violist Rosalind Ventris, cellist Bartholomew LaFollette, and pianist Tom Poster.
