Junge Chor Aachen is a classical music ensemble based in Aachen, Germany. The ensemble was founded in 1999 by a group of young singers who shared a passion for choral music. Since its inception, Junge Chor Aachen has become one of the most renowned choral ensembles in Germany, known for its exceptional performances and innovative programming. The ensemble's founding members were a group of students from the RWTH Aachen University who were studying music and wanted to create a choral group that would allow them to continue singing together after graduation. They were inspired by the rich choral tradition in Germany and wanted to create a group that would showcase the beauty and power of choral music to a wider audience. The ensemble's first conductor was Michael Kokott, who led the group for several years before passing the baton to his successor, Christiane Laake. Under Laake's leadership, Junge Chor Aachen has continued to grow and thrive, attracting new members and expanding its repertoire to include a wide range of choral music from different periods and styles. One of the hallmarks of Junge Chor Aachen's performances is its commitment to excellence in both singing and interpretation. The ensemble's members are all highly trained musicians who bring a deep understanding of the music they perform to each concert. They are also known for their dynamic and engaging stage presence, which helps to bring the music to life for audiences. Over the years, Junge Chor Aachen has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in Germany and beyond. The ensemble has been invited to perform at festivals and concerts throughout Europe, including the International Choral Festival in Cork, Ireland, and the Europa Cantat Festival in Ljubljana, Slovenia. They have also performed at the Aachen Cathedral, one of the most iconic and historic churches in Germany. One of the highlights of Junge Chor Aachen's career was their performance at the World Choir Games in 2014. The ensemble competed against choirs from around the world and won several awards, including a gold medal in the mixed choir category and a silver medal in the contemporary music category. This was a major achievement for the ensemble and helped to cement their reputation as one of the top choral groups in Germany. In addition to their performances, Junge Chor Aachen is also committed to promoting choral music and supporting young musicians. The ensemble regularly hosts workshops and masterclasses for young singers, providing them with the opportunity to learn from some of the best choral musicians in Germany. Today, Junge Chor Aachen is made up of around 50 singers from all over Germany.
