He went on to study at the Bratislava Conservatory and later at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, where he earned a degree in piano performance. Michalko's career as a musician began in earnest in the early 2000s, when he started performing as a soloist with various orchestras in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. He has also given recitals in major concert halls around the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Musikverein in Vienna. Michalko's performances were widely praised for their depth, nuance, and emotional power, and they helped to cement his reputation as one of the leading pianists of his generation. In addition to his work as a pianist, Michalko has also made a name for himself as a conductor and composer. He has conducted many of the same orchestras with which he has performed as a pianist, and he has also written a number of works for piano, orchestra, and chamber ensembles.
