Role:EnsembleGenre:Avant-GardeChamberStockholm Chamber Brass is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their exceptional performances for over 30 years. The ensemble was founded in 1985 by six young musicians who shared a passion for brass music and a desire to create something unique. Since then, Stockholm Chamber Brass has become one of the most sought-after brass ensembles in the world, known for their virtuosic playing, innovative programming, and engaging performances. The founding members of Stockholm Chamber Brass were Urban Agnas (trumpet), Jonas Bylund (trumpet), Per Ivarsson (horn), Jonas Bylund (trombone), Janne Saksala (tuba), and Håkan Hardenberger (trumpet). All six musicians were graduates of the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and had already established themselves as soloists and chamber musicians before coming together to form the ensemble. From the beginning, Stockholm Chamber Brass set out to explore the full range of brass music, from the Baroque era to contemporary works. They quickly gained a reputation for their innovative programming, which often included lesser-known works alongside more familiar pieces. The ensemble's commitment to new music has also been a hallmark of their career, with many composers writing works specifically for Stockholm Chamber Brass. Over the years, the ensemble has undergone some changes in personnel, but the core members have remained the same. Today, Stockholm Chamber Brass consists of Urban Agnas (trumpet), Tom Poulson (trumpet), Jonas Bylund (trombone), Annamia Larsson (horn), and Sami Al Fakir (tuba). All five musicians are highly accomplished performers in their own right, with extensive experience as soloists, chamber musicians, and orchestral players. Stockholm Chamber Brass has performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and North America, appearing at major festivals and concert halls around the world. Some of the ensemble's most notable performances include their debut at the BBC Proms in 1998, where they performed the world premiere of Mark-Anthony Turnage's "Yet Another Set To" for brass quintet and orchestra. They have also performed at the Salzburg Festival, the Lucerne Festival, and the Edinburgh International Festival, among others. In addition to their live performances, Stockholm Chamber Brass has released several critically acclaimed recordings. Their discography includes works by Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven, as well as contemporary composers such as Anders Hillborg and Pär Mårtensson. The ensemble's recording of Hillborg's "Brass Quintet" was awarded a Swedish Grammy in 2003. Stockholm Chamber Brass has also been recognized with numerous awards and honors throughout their career. In 1996, they were awarded the Royal Swedish Academy of Music's Interpretation Prize, and in 2002, they received the Swedish Radio Prize for Best Classical Album. The ensemble has also been awarded the Nordic Council Music Prize, one of the most prestigious awards in the Nordic countries, for their contributions to contemporary music. Despite their many accolades, Stockholm Chamber Brass remains committed to their mission of exploring the full range of brass music and bringing it to audiences around the world. Their innovative programming, virtuosic playing, and engaging performances continue to captivate audiences and inspire new generations of brass musicians.More....
