He was born into a family of musicians, and his father was a well-known violinist. Uninsky began playing the piano at a young age and showed exceptional talent. He received his early musical education at the St. Petersburg Conservatory, where he studied under the tutelage of some of the most prominent pianists of the time. In 1922, Uninsky and his family fled Russia due to the political turmoil and settled in Paris, France. There, he continued his musical education at the Paris Conservatory, where he studied under the guidance of Isidor Philipp. Uninsky's talent and dedication to his craft were evident, and he quickly gained recognition as a rising star in the world of classical music. Uninsky made his debut performance in Paris in 1930, and it was met with critical acclaim. He went on to perform in some of the most prestigious concert halls in Europe, including the Royal Albert Hall in London and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Uninsky's performances were known for their technical brilliance and emotional depth, and he quickly became one of the most sought-after pianists of his time. In 1939, Uninsky moved to the United States, where he continued to perform and teach. He became a professor of piano at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Maryland, and later at the University of Maryland. One of Uninsky's most notable performances was his rendition of Sergei Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor. Uninsky also recorded the complete works of Chopin, which is considered one of the most significant recordings of the composer's works.
