Role:ConductorGenre:ChamberOrchestralNina Stern is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of music through her exceptional skills as a recorder player, performer, and educator. Born in New York City, Nina grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music from a very young age. Her father was a jazz pianist, and her mother was a classical pianist, which gave her a unique perspective on music. Nina began playing the recorder at the age of nine and quickly developed a passion for the instrument. She studied with some of the best recorder players in the world, including Marion Verbruggen and Pedro Memelsdorff. She also studied at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland, where she received a degree in Early Music Performance. Nina's career as a performer began in the early 1990s when she joined the New York-based ensemble, Piffaro. The group specializes in Renaissance and Baroque music and has performed all over the world. Nina's exceptional skills as a recorder player quickly made her a standout member of the ensemble, and she became a regular performer with the group. In addition to her work with Piffaro, Nina has also performed with many other ensembles, including the Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra, the Handel and Haydn Society, and the New York Collegium. She has also performed as a soloist with many orchestras, including the Seattle Symphony, the New York Philharmonic, and the Orchestra of St. Luke's. One of the highlights of Nina's career was her performance at the White House in 1998. She was invited to perform for President Bill Clinton and his guests at a state dinner, which was a significant honor for her. She has also performed at many other prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center. Nina has received many awards and accolades throughout her career. In 2007, she was awarded the prestigious Howard Mayer Brown Award for lifetime achievement in early music. She has also received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the New York State Council on the Arts. In addition to her work as a performer, Nina is also a dedicated educator. She has taught at many universities and conservatories, including the Juilliard School, the Yale School of Music, and the Eastman School of Music. She is also the founder and director of S'Cool Sounds, a non-profit organization that provides music education to underserved schools in New York City. Nina's contributions to the world of music have been significant, and she continues to be a leading figure in the early music community. Her exceptional skills as a recorder player, combined with her passion for music and dedication to education, have made her a beloved and respected figure in the music world.More....
