The Warsaw Chamber Orchestra is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences around the world for over 60 years. Founded in 1957 by conductor and violinist Jerzy Maksymiuk, the orchestra has become one of the most respected and admired ensembles in the world of classical music. Jerzy Maksymiuk was born in Poland in 1936 and began his musical career as a violinist. He studied at the State Higher School of Music in Warsaw and later became a member of the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1957, Maksymiuk founded the Warsaw Chamber Orchestra with a group of fellow musicians who shared his passion for chamber music. The ensemble quickly gained a reputation for its exceptional musicianship and innovative programming. The Warsaw Chamber Orchestra was one of the first ensembles to specialize in the performance of Baroque and Classical music on period instruments, and their performances were praised for their authenticity and vitality. Over the years, the Warsaw Chamber Orchestra has collaborated with some of the most celebrated musicians in the world of classical music, including pianist Martha Argerich, cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, and violinist Pinchas Zukerman. The ensemble has also performed with many of the world's leading conductors, including Sir Neville Marriner, Claudio Abbado, and Leonard Bernstein. One of the highlights of the Warsaw Chamber Orchestra's career was their performance at the 1980 Salzburg Festival, where they were the first Polish ensemble to perform at the prestigious event. The ensemble's performance was a resounding success, and they received a standing ovation from the audience. The Warsaw Chamber Orchestra has also been recognized for their recordings, which have received numerous awards and accolades. In 1986, the ensemble won a Grammy Award for their recording of Mozart's Piano Concertos Nos. 20 and 21 with pianist Ivan Moravec. The ensemble has also been awarded the Diapason d'Or, the Grand Prix du Disque, and the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik for their recordings. The Warsaw Chamber Orchestra has undergone several changes in membership over the years, but has always maintained a high standard of musicianship. Some of the ensemble's most notable members have included violinist Konstanty Andrzej Kulka, cellist Andrzej Bauer, and harpsichordist Elzbieta Stefańska. In addition to their performances and recordings, the Warsaw Chamber Orchestra has also been committed to promoting music education and outreach. The ensemble has worked with young musicians through their annual International Chamber Music Workshops, which have been held in Poland since 1991. The workshops provide young musicians with the opportunity to work with members of the Warsaw Chamber Orchestra and other renowned musicians. The Warsaw Chamber Orchestra has also been involved in a number of charitable initiatives, including fundraising concerts for the victims of natural disasters and humanitarian crises. In 2010, the ensemble performed a benefit concert for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti, raising over 100,000 euros for relief efforts. Today, the Warsaw Chamber Orchestra continues to be a leading ensemble in the world of classical music. Under the direction of conductor and violinist Wojciech Rajski, the ensemble has continued to innovate and inspire audiences around the world.
