Kammerata Luxembourg
Artist Info
Kammerata Luxembourg is a classical music ensemble based in Luxembourg. The ensemble was founded in 1975 by a group of young musicians who were passionate about chamber music. The founding members included pianist Jean Muller, violinist Carlo Jans, and cellist Gast Waltzing. The ensemble's name, Kammerata, is derived from the Latin word "camerata," which means "chamber." The name reflects the ensemble's focus on chamber music, which is music composed for small groups of instruments. Over the years, Kammerata Luxembourg has grown to become one of the most respected chamber music ensembles in Europe. The ensemble has performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Konzerthaus, and the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris. Kammerata Luxembourg's repertoire includes works by some of the greatest composers in classical music, including Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, and Schubert. The ensemble is also known for its performances of contemporary music, and has premiered works by composers such as Arvo Pärt, John Cage, and Steve Reich. The ensemble's main members have changed over the years, but Kammerata Luxembourg has always maintained a high level of musical excellence. Some of the ensemble's most notable members have included violinist Gilles Colliard, cellist Jean-Philippe Martignoni, and clarinetist Pascal Meyer. One of Kammerata Luxembourg's most memorable performances took place in 1995, when the ensemble performed at the opening ceremony of the European Parliament in Strasbourg. The ensemble performed a piece by Luxembourgish composer Marcel Wengler, which was specially commissioned for the occasion. Kammerata Luxembourg has also been recognized for its musical achievements with numerous awards and honors. In 1999, the ensemble was awarded the Luxembourgish Cultural Prize for Music. The ensemble has also been awarded the Prix de la Critique Musicale in France, and the Diapason d'Or in Belgium. In addition to its performances, Kammerata Luxembourg is also committed to music education. The ensemble regularly holds workshops and masterclasses for young musicians, and has established a scholarship program to support young musicians in Luxembourg. Overall, Kammerata Luxembourg is a testament to the power of chamber music. Through its performances and educational initiatives, the ensemble has helped to promote classical music and inspire a new generation of musicians.More....
