The Roberts Wesleyan College Symphonic Wind Ensemble is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1985 at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, New York. The ensemble is made up of talented musicians who are passionate about classical music and dedicated to delivering exceptional performances. The ensemble was founded by Dr. Paul Shewan, who served as the director of the ensemble for over 30 years. Dr. Shewan is a renowned conductor and composer who has worked with many prestigious ensembles and orchestras around the world. He is also a professor of music at Roberts Wesleyan College and has been instrumental in the development of the music program at the college. The Roberts Wesleyan College Symphonic Wind Ensemble is made up of approximately 50 musicians, including students, faculty members, and community members. The ensemble is open to all musicians who are interested in playing wind and percussion instruments and who are committed to excellence in performance. Over the years, the ensemble has performed at many prestigious venues and events, including the New York State School Music Association Conference, the College Band Directors National Association Conference, and the International Trumpet Guild Conference. The ensemble has also performed with many renowned soloists, including Allen Vizzutti, Doc Severinsen, and Jens Lindemann. One of the highlights of the ensemble's performances was their appearance at the 2015 New York State School Music Association Conference. The ensemble performed a program of challenging and diverse repertoire, including works by John Mackey, Frank Ticheli, and David Maslanka. The performance was well-received by the audience and received high praise from music educators and critics. The ensemble has also received many awards and accolades over the years. In 2017, the ensemble was awarded the John Philip Sousa Foundation's Sudler Silver Scroll, which is one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon a wind ensemble. In addition to their performances, the Roberts Wesleyan College Symphonic Wind Ensemble is also committed to music education and outreach.
