The Blakemore Trio is a classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their exceptional performances for over 30 years. The trio was founded in 1986 by violinist Carolyn Huebl, cellist Felix Wang, and pianist Amy Dorfman, who were all faculty members at the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. The trio's name is derived from the Blakemore Foundation, which provided the initial funding for the ensemble. The foundation was established by the late E. Bronson Ingram, a prominent businessman and philanthropist who was passionate about supporting the arts in Nashville. The Blakemore Trio quickly gained a reputation for their dynamic and expressive performances, which showcased their individual virtuosity as well as their seamless ensemble playing. They have performed extensively throughout the United States and abroad, including appearances at major concert halls and festivals such as Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Ravinia Festival, and the Edinburgh Festival. One of the highlights of the Blakemore Trio's career was their performance at the White House in 1998, where they played for President Bill Clinton and other dignitaries. The trio has also collaborated with many renowned musicians, including clarinetist Richard Stoltzman, violinist Cho-Liang Lin, and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. In addition to their performances, the Blakemore Trio is also committed to education and outreach. They have conducted masterclasses and workshops for students of all ages, and have served as artists-in-residence at several universities and music festivals. The Blakemore Trio has received numerous awards and accolades throughout their career. They were the first ensemble to win the prestigious Walter W. Naumburg Chamber Music Award in 1987, and have also been awarded the Cleveland Quartet Award and the Grand Prize at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. The trio has recorded several albums, including a critically acclaimed recording of the complete piano trios of Beethoven. Their recordings have been praised for their technical precision, musical sensitivity, and emotional depth. Despite changes in personnel over the years, the Blakemore Trio has remained a vital and innovative force in the world of classical music. They continue to inspire audiences with their passionate and insightful performances, and their commitment to excellence in both music and education.More....
