She was born on December 14, 1967, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Her parents were both musicians, and her father was a conductor. Wilson grew up in a musical household and began playing the piano at a young age. She was also exposed to classical music from an early age, attending concerts and performances with her family. Wilson's passion for music continued to grow, and she went on to study at the University of Manitoba, where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance. She then went on to study conducting at the University of Toronto, where she earned a Master of Music degree in conducting. Wilson's career continued to flourish, and she went on to conduct many of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. One of Wilson's most notable performances was her debut with the Berlin Philharmonic in 2007. The Berliner Zeitung praised her "precise and expressive conducting," while the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung called her "a conductor of great promise." Wilson has also been recognized for her work as a conductor, receiving numerous awards and honors throughout her career. In 2002, she was awarded the Jean-Marie Beaudet Award for Orchestral Conducting by the Canada Council for the Arts. She was also named one of Canada's Top 40 Under 40 by The Globe and Mail in 2003. In addition to her work as a conductor, Wilson is also a passionate advocate for music education. She has worked with many youth orchestras and music programs around the world, and has been a guest lecturer at several universities and conservatories.
