The Berliner Mädchenchor, or Berlin Girls' Choir, is a renowned classical music ensemble based in Berlin, Germany. Founded in 1984 by Sabine Wüsthoff, the choir has grown to become one of the most respected and accomplished youth choirs in Europe. The choir was born out of Wüsthoff's desire to provide young girls with the opportunity to learn and perform classical music at a high level. She began by recruiting a small group of girls from her neighborhood in Berlin, and soon the choir began to grow in size and reputation. Over the years, the Berliner Mädchenchor has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in Europe, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, and the Royal Albert Hall in London. They have also collaborated with many renowned conductors and orchestras, including Sir Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic, and have been featured on numerous recordings and broadcasts. One of the highlights of the choir's career came in 2006, when they were invited to perform at the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup in Berlin. The choir sang the German national anthem in front of a global audience of millions, and their performance was widely praised for its beauty and precision. In addition to their many performances, the Berliner Mädchenchor has also received numerous awards and accolades over the years. They have won several first prizes at international choral competitions, including the prestigious International Choir Competition in Marktoberdorf, Germany.
