He quickly gained a reputation for his technical skill and musical sensitivity, and he was soon invited to perform with some of the world's leading orchestras. One of Werner's most memorable performances was in 1972 when he played Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. Over the years, Werner continued to perform in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. He also collaborated with many of the world's leading conductors, including Herbert von Karajan, Leonard Bernstein, and Claudio Abbado. In addition to his performances, Werner was also a dedicated teacher. He taught at the Berlin University of the Arts for many years, and he was known for his ability to inspire and motivate his students. Many of his students went on to have successful careers as musicians, and they credit Werner with helping them to achieve their goals. Throughout his career, Werner received many awards and honors for his contributions to classical music. In 1985, he was awarded the Order of Merit of Berlin, and in 1992, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. He was also a recipient of the Beethoven Prize, the Brahms Prize, and the Chopin Prize. Sadly, Werner passed away on June 15, 2005, at the age of 60.
