He was the youngest of three children and grew up in a musical family. His father was a pianist, and his mother was a singer. Willy showed an interest in music from a young age and began playing the piano at the age of six. As a child, Willy was a prodigious talent and quickly became recognized for his musical abilities. He began performing in public at the age of eight and won his first competition at the age of ten. He continued to win numerous competitions throughout his teenage years, including the prestigious Princess Christina Competition. After completing his studies at the Rotterdam Conservatory, Willy began his professional career as a concert pianist.
