Harrison began his musical education at an early age, studying piano and violin with his father. He later attended the Royal College of Music in London, where he studied composition with Charles Villiers Stanford and piano with Tobias Matthay. After completing his studies, Harrison began his career as a composer and conductor. He was appointed conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra in 1919, a position he held for two years. In addition to his conducting work, Harrison was also a prolific composer, writing music for orchestra, chamber ensembles, and solo instruments. One of Harrison's most famous works is his Symphony No. 1, which was premiered in 1924 by the London Symphony Orchestra.
