Jan Pollacek was born on May 12, 1985, in Prague, Czech Republic. He was born into a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Jan showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Jan's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with his father and quickly progressed, showing a natural ability for the instrument. By the age of ten, Jan had already won several local piano competitions and was gaining recognition as a young prodigy. In 1996, Jan was accepted into the Prague Conservatory, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and teacher, Ivan Moravec. During his time at the conservatory, Jan honed his skills and developed a deep understanding of classical music. He also began performing in public, giving recitals and playing with orchestras. In 2004, Jan graduated from the Prague Conservatory with honors and was accepted into the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City. There, he studied with renowned pianist and teacher, Emanuel Ax, and continued to develop his skills as a performer and musician. During his time at Juilliard, Jan won several awards and competitions, including the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. He also performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic and the London Symphony Orchestra. After graduating from Juilliard in 2008, Jan embarked on a successful career as a concert pianist. He has performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He has also collaborated with some of the world's leading conductors, including Sir Simon Rattle and Daniel Barenboim. Jan's repertoire is vast and includes works by some of the greatest composers in history, including Beethoven, Mozart, and Chopin. He is known for his technical prowess and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music he plays. In addition to his performing career, Jan is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught at several music schools and conservatories around the world and has mentored many young pianists who have gone on to successful careers in music. Jan has received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career, including the Avery Fisher Career Grant and the Gilmore Artist Award.
