The Rossetti Ensemble is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1997 in the United Kingdom. The ensemble is named after the famous Victorian poet and painter Dante Gabriel Rossetti, who was a member of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. The Rossetti Ensemble is known for its exceptional performances of chamber music, particularly works from the classical and romantic periods. The founding members of the Rossetti Ensemble were violinist Sarah Ewins, cellist Moray Welsh, and pianist Simon Crawford-Phillips. All three musicians had established successful careers as soloists and chamber musicians before coming together to form the ensemble. Ewins had performed with the London Symphony Orchestra and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, Welsh had been a member of the renowned Nash Ensemble, and Crawford-Phillips had won numerous awards for his solo piano performances. Since its founding, the Rossetti Ensemble has performed extensively throughout the United Kingdom and internationally. The ensemble has been praised for its technical precision, musical sensitivity, and ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music it performs. The ensemble's repertoire includes works by composers such as Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann, and Mendelssohn, as well as lesser-known works by composers such as Louise Farrenc and Fanny Mendelssohn. One of the highlights of the Rossetti Ensemble's career was its performance at the Wigmore Hall in London in 2001. The ensemble performed a program of works by Schumann, including his Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor and his Piano Quartet in E-flat major. The performance was widely praised by critics, with The Guardian describing it as "a performance of rare beauty and intensity." In addition to its performances, the Rossetti Ensemble has also received numerous awards and accolades. In 2002, the ensemble was awarded the Royal Philharmonic Society's Chamber Music Award, which is one of the most prestigious awards in classical music. The award recognized the ensemble's outstanding contributions to the field of chamber music and its commitment to excellence in performance. Another notable achievement for the Rossetti Ensemble was its recording of the complete piano trios of Louise Farrenc, which was released in 2013 on the Hyperion label. The recording received widespread critical acclaim, with Gramophone magazine describing it as "a landmark recording" and BBC Music Magazine naming it one of the top classical recordings of the year. The Rossetti Ensemble has undergone some changes in its membership over the years, but its commitment to excellence in performance and its dedication to the chamber music repertoire have remained constant. The current members of the ensemble are violinist Sarah Ewins, cellist Richard Harwood, and pianist Simon Crawford-Phillips. The ensemble continues to perform regularly and to inspire audiences with its exceptional musicianship and artistry.More....
