Duo 46 is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2003 by two accomplished musicians, guitarist Matt Gould and violinist Beth Ilana Schneider-Gould. The duo has gained international recognition for their innovative and dynamic performances, which blend classical and contemporary music styles. Matt Gould and Beth Ilana Schneider-Gould met while studying at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. They quickly discovered a shared passion for exploring new musical styles and techniques, and began collaborating on a variety of projects. In 2003, they decided to form Duo 46 as a way to showcase their unique musical vision. The name "Duo 46" is a reference to the number of strings on their instruments - four on the violin and six on the guitar. The duo's repertoire includes a wide range of classical and contemporary works, as well as original compositions by Matt Gould. One of the highlights of Duo 46's career was their performance at the 2006 Guitar Foundation of America International Convention and Competition. The duo was awarded first prize in the chamber music division, and their performance was praised for its technical precision and musicality. Since then, Duo 46 has performed at numerous prestigious venues and festivals around the world, including the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, and the Festival Internacional de Guitarra de Morelia in Mexico. They have also collaborated with a variety of other musicians and ensembles, including the New York Philharmonic and the Kronos Quartet. In addition to their live performances, Duo 46 has released several critically acclaimed recordings. Their debut album, "The Music of Matt Gould," was released in 2006 and features original compositions by Gould. Their second album, "Entanglements," was released in 2010 and includes works by contemporary composers such as John Zorn and Elliott Carter. Duo 46's performances are known for their technical virtuosity and emotional depth. They are particularly skilled at blending classical and contemporary styles, creating a unique and compelling musical experience for their audiences. In addition to their musical accomplishments, Matt Gould and Beth Ilana Schneider-Gould are also committed educators.
