The Arneis Quartet is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2009 in Boston, Massachusetts. The quartet is made up of four members: Heather Braun and Rose Drucker on violin, Daniel Doña on viola, and Agnes Kim on cello. The ensemble has gained recognition for their dynamic performances and innovative programming. The quartet's name, Arneis, is derived from a white wine grape that is grown in the Piedmont region of Italy. The name was chosen to reflect the quartet's commitment to exploring new and diverse musical styles. The Arneis Quartet has performed at numerous venues across the United States, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. They have also performed internationally in Canada, Italy, and South Korea. One of the highlights of the quartet's career was their performance at the 2014 Chamber Music America Conference in New York City. The quartet was selected as one of six ensembles to perform at the conference, which is one of the most prestigious events in the chamber music world. In addition to their performances, the Arneis Quartet has also been recognized for their recordings. Their debut album, "The Arneis Quartet: Haydn, Ravel, and Beethoven," was released in 2013 and received critical acclaim. The album features the quartet's interpretations of three iconic works from the classical music canon. The Arneis Quartet has also been recognized for their commitment to contemporary music. They have commissioned and premiered works by a number of contemporary composers, including David Rakowski, John Harbison, and Kati Agócs. One of the quartet's most notable collaborations was with composer and pianist Vijay Iyer. In 2016, the Arneis Quartet and Iyer premiered a new work, "Time, Place, Action," at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. The piece was inspired by the museum's collection and explored the intersection of music and visual art. The Arneis Quartet has received numerous awards and accolades throughout their career. In 2011, they were awarded the Grand Prize at the Plowman Chamber Music Competition. They were also finalists in the 2013 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and the 2014 Chesapeake Chamber Music Competition. In addition to their performances and recordings, the Arneis Quartet is committed to music education. They have worked with students of all ages and levels, from elementary school students to college music majors. The quartet has also served as ensemble-in-residence at several universities, including the University of Massachusetts Amherst and the University of Southern Maine. Overall, the Arneis Quartet is a dynamic and innovative ensemble that has gained recognition for their performances, recordings, and commitment to contemporary music.
